Khatam
Khatam (inlay art) is one of the precious arts of Iran, which is known as one of the most difficult and complex handicrafts, and its production and manufacture requires care and patience.
Khatam's working method is not much different from the past to the present, and since more than 200 small pieces of wood, metal or bone can be used in one square centimeter of Khatam In making inlay from small triangles made of wood
(jujube, orange, betel, ebony, eggplant, etc.), bone (camel, ivory), metal (gold, silver, copper, rice, etc.), glue (wood (Sirish), small side triangles are glued together to form a larger star, and so on until a large surface of the inlay is produced, then cut into thin sheets 2 to 3 mm thick.
They are laminated and glued to the substructure surface, such as boxes, photo frames, etc., and the work surface is killer or semi-polyester and polished.
Tips While Buying a High-Quality Khatam:
If you are planning to purchase one of the Khatamkari products pay attention to make sure that the surface of the work is utterly flat and there is no trace of priming left on it. A high-quality Khatamkari has got symmetrical patterns and images and its reiterated images and patterns are identical in size. The smaller the images and patterns reiterated on the surface of the work, the higher the aesthetic value of the marquetry.
Attention
Inlaid textiles(khatam) have sensitivities due to the material and method of production, so it is recommended to store the product in a dry place without high humidity and away from direct sunlight.
